Shazia Ahmad(She/her)

Shazia Ahmad is an individual therapist who began her journey nearly 5 years ago. She has a Post-graduate Diploma in Psychological Counseling Skills as well as a Masters degree in Applied Psychology with a major in Counseling. Through her years of learning, she has worked with adolescents and adults of all ages, including seniors, on their journey of healing, self-discovery and self-acceptance.

She had worked with them on issues of anger management, procrastination, interpersonal relationships, eating disorders, low self-esteem and other problem situations in life. She believes these require a caring, supportive and non-judgemental presence, as her clients journey through life’s ups and downs.

She is trained in Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy from the Ottawa Mindfulness Clinic and Pause for Perspective. She has also undertaken training in Solution-focused Brief Therapy, and completed short courses in Gender and Sexuality, The Art and Science of Relationships and Psychological First Aid.

Through continuing education programs she has enriched her knowledge in therapeutic modalities of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment theory and Narrative therapy.

She has also undertaken Gender-Sensitivity training, and attended Queer-affirmative workshops, Caste-sensitivity workshop, Disability-justice workshop and continues to inform her work through further readings and workshops geared towards a more inclusive understanding of the world we inhabit.

Her stance towards her work and her clients is intersectional, feminist, trauma-informed, queer-affirmative, gender and sexuality sensitised.

Qualifications/Certifications

  • Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Psychological Counseling Skills from St. Francis Degree College for Women (2017-2018)

 

  • in Applied Psychology (Counseling) from St. Francis Degree College for Women (2019-2021)

 

Experiences in working with adolescents, young adults and adults, in individual sessions. She has worked with clients with clinical diagnosis of Depression, Anxiety, C-PTSD, Trauma and suicidal ideation.
